About Me

Originally from St. Louis, MO where I grew up and lived until my early 30s, I moved to Denver in 1997 for a job, bought a house, met my husband (in Cuba!) and here we are!  We usually have two dogs, but my first beloved keeshond, Rocky, died last year so we have Rosie now and finding one dog like her is plenty.  No kids but my husband does have a beautiful 20 year old daughter who lives in Chicago.

I used to consider myself more of a classical artist (painting, drawing).  I have a degree in art history and took many painting and drawing courses as well.  However, after graduating with the Art History degree and a French minor, I ended up, somehow, working in Information Technology, huh.

I started a business in 1995 painting and dyeing clothing for kids, called Little Bitsys, in Arizona.  I had an Etsy shop, then discovered the time it took to make them wasn't worth it so I gravitated back into something I've been doing since my first class at age 10, sewing.

I have been sewing a long time.  I used to make a lot of my clothes in high school, my mother made a lot of my formal dresses when I was in high school and college.  I got my first sewing machine from my parents in the 70s and I was still using it up until 2 years ago.  I recently became the proud owner of a Bernina 440QE and am pretty much in love.  :)

I really got back into quilting through Flickr.  My Flickr page is here  I was sewing but noticed so many people quilting and eventually I started doing some patchwork here and there and voila, now I'm kind of obsessed.  I do still have an Etsy shop called Sewing Geek and I sell mainly aprons and quilts and various other things that I might happen to make.

I have a full-time job so it does make it harder to do all the creative things but I make time.

When did you begin your first quilt?

When I was 23 I made one for my boyfriend at the time, but we broke up so I still have it! I quilted the entire thing by hand.

When I'm not quilting, I like to:

Cook, travel, play with my pups, garden, hike...

I love all the online groups I'm in including two quilting bees but I miss REAL people so that's what I'm hoping to get out of it, meeting some people and getting together in person with other modern quilters.

About Me

I am a retired kindergarten teacher of 32 years!! I love my time for quilting as I have 3 grandchildren who all love my quilts...(Well, their parents do as they are still very young. HA!) I have been sewing for over 50 years and quilting for at least 27+ of those years. All my daughter-in-laws and daughter are into the modern quilts and fabrics so this is fun for me and a little different from my traditional quilting. I am active in my church and enjoy fellowship with other women. I am a 3 year cancer survivor and life is good!!

I live in beautiful Colorado and love it here. I have 3 children. My sons are the oldest and one of them lives with his family in Florida. They have two sons who are 3 1/2 years and the baby is 9 months. My other son lives about 15 minutes away, works with my husband, and has a little girl who is 2 years and another one on the way!!  The grandkids are all so precious!! My daughter isn't married and is in Pharmacy School in Denver, Co. She is only about an hour away! I love having everyone so close.

My sister sews and we enjoy sewing together however she lives in Kansas so we get together about 2 weeks every summer and just sew away. She is actually the one who got me interested in making quilts.
A college friend of mine got me interested in virtual quilting bees and modern quilting.

When did you begin your first quilt?

I have been sewing for 50 years. I made my first quilt for my daughter in 1982.

When I'm not quilting, I like to:

I love being with my family, especially the grandkids!!  I love my friends, going to lunch, and enjoying life with them.  I read when I want to relax and I quilt for my creative side and "therapy"!  HA!

I am requesting modern maple blocks, 12x12, with white background.
http://www.larkcrafts.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/modern-maples.pdf

I would like fall colors (patterns are okay as long as they are in the fall color scheme). I like the colors in the picture that accompanies the pattern as well as these colors.
