About Me

Hi, I love modern fresh quilting, flying by the seat of my pants (sometimes that gets me into trouble lol) and fresh fun fabrics!  I live in SE Aurora, and have been looking for several years for others that like the same type of quilting, here in colorado! Glad to have found you!   I'm a Christian mom of 4 - but only have 2 left at home. I spend every minute I can with them! :D  and all my free time is spent sewing!

:) Most of our members have never belonged to a guild before! That's one of the reasons they started The Modern Quilt Guild in the first place -- so that we modern quilters could have a place to meet other than the traditional guilds where no one felt comfortable! :)
We have 3 kinds of get-togethers. One month there is a meet-and-sew on a Saturday, where we have a regular meeting in the morning, break for lunch, then sew in the afternoon. Then the next month, we have a regular guild meeting on a Monday night. The following Saturday, we have an "unofficial sew" where there is no meeting, no agenda, no plan...just come and sew.
So whenever there is a "sew", of any kind, we all bring whatever project(s) we are working on. Some bring hand work, so they don't have to bring their sewing machine, some bring stuff just to cut, some bring projects they want advice or help with, some bring their machine and whatever they need to get finished. The December "sew-cial" is just a sew (from 9-5), so bring whatever you want to work on! We decided not to have a proper meeting in December since everyone is always so harried. :)
For a meeting, though, we always talk about guild business, usually have a program, sometimes have a swap, and always have show-and-tell time, so people bring their latest finished, or a WiP that they want advice or help with.
As far as dues go, we collect $25 dues once a year, and your first meeting is free. You can come to the sew-cial and just meet us and be sure we're a good fit, and then officially join in January, or if you want, you can join in December. The advantages (in our guild, at least) for joining is that you get discounts at some local fabric stores (in Denver, it's always 10% at Fabric Bliss, and 10% at Joanns, but Snappy Quilts is offering us 15% on the day of the January meeting, so having your membership card ahead of time might be an advantage. :) Hopefully I can convince them to give us a discount all the time!! :) Other advantages is that you get to participate in swaps and challenges, you are eligible for giveaways, and coming to the yearly retreat.

Which, by the way, the retreat is February 24-26 in Monument and there are still slots open. It will cost somewhere between $175-$200 depending on how many people come. It includes 2 nights at the Hideaway Conf Ctr, and all meals on Saturday and Sunday breakfast and lunch. The time not eating and sleeping is all sew time! The other retreats I've seen, even locally, are well over $200, some as much as $800!! This one is cheap! :) ) We are asking for a $100 non-refundable deposit between now and January 9th if you want to secure your spot.

Please feel free to ask more questions if you've got them about the retreat or anything else! :)

Have a great week, and a happy Thanksgiving!

Hey Brenis!

Welcome! I'm so glad you found us. We ARE "your people". :) We just had our November meeting, but in December we're having a casual "Sew-cial" (Dec 10th) -- just a day to sew, and get some last minute projects done before Christmas. Then on Jan 9th, we're meeting at Snappy Quilts in Denver from 6:30-8:30. We usually meet in Monument, but try to meet in Denver periodically. We've got people who live all over Denver, though, so carpooling is always an option.
Please feel free to ask me any questions you want, but our FAQs are pretty thorough.
I look forward to meeting you!
