About Me
When I lived in LA, I was an active member of the Los Angeles Modern Quilt Guild, and learned so very much from the wonderful quilters and crafters there. We moved back to Colorado Springs in November 2010, and I am excited to be a part of the Front Range Modern Quilt Guild. I have two sweet little daughters (4 1/2 and 2 1/2) a munchable little baby boy, and a wonderful husband who supports my "habit." I really only have time to sew after 8 or 9 pm, so my progress is slow, but I love it just the same. I started quilting in 1997 when a good friend taught me how to sew and quilt. While I liked the process, I never got terribly excited about the end product. I stopped quilting until 2009 when my best friend got pregnant, and I wanted to make a baby quilt for him. While blog surfing, I discovered the vast array of beautiful modern quilts out there, and began to get excited about quilting again. I think modern quilting is my style of quilting because I find it so freeing. I know that the construction of the quilt is important, but that the "rules" are not. I am excited to follow the story the quilt is writing, and not have to force the quilt to become what I think it should be. I love the modern fabrics, the vibrant colors, the funky patterns and designs, and I love the people! Modern quilters are so much fun to be around! I am often encouraged and Now that I have found modern quilting, I love the process AND the final product! Post a CommentOops! The words you entered did not match the given text. Hi Michelle! Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm so excited to have found you guys! I will definitely come to the May meeting, I can't wait to meet everyone.
Thanks for the lovely Welcome! I'm so excited about the meeting on the 20th, and I am curious about what I should bring. I would like to officially join the guild. What is the cost of membership? I have a name tag from the emerald coast guild that I will bring. (Kelly can't seem to say enough nice things about you!) I was only able to make it to one of their meeting/sews before life got cra-zay, so I'm almost wetting my pants to be able to make it to meetings here in our new home. Do you ladies do show and tell every meeting? Should I bring a snack? I'm seriously so excited!
Thank you for the warm welcome, Melissa! I just joined today and am not sure what Saturday holds for me. if I can make it I won't be able to stay for the sew day as I'm sure we have plans in the afternoon.
I'm mesmerized looking at all the beautiful work by the members. Someday I won't be such a beginner!
Always good to find another fan of Marimekko.
Unfortunately I won't be able to come to the meeting in January as I signed up for a jewelry making class on that day back in November.
Oh, that's right! I don't know that Abby ever told me your name -- just that I was supposed to keep your ticket to the retreat a secret.
I will be popping in at the retreat, but my plans have changed and I won't be able to go to the retreat after all! I'm very disappointed, but one of my quilts has been selected for a quilt competition in Austin, TX later in February, and my husband isn't really keen on being on duty for 2 full weekends back-to-back. I'm glad you're coming! I know you and Beccy and Abby will have a blast!
Thank you Melissa. My daughters signed me up for the quilt retreat this February and I am excited about coming to it with them. Will I meet you then?
Hello and thanks for the welcome! I've spent the better part of my morning looking at all of the blog links! So exciting. Hoping to make it to some fabric stores in Denver and will keep in touch if I'm in town for a meeting. Happy holidays and happy sewing!
Thanks for the warm welcome, Melissa! I had fun and will return!
Thank you so much for the welcome! I will surely check out the FAQ. I have to check the calendar for the sew & greet - but it looks like FUN!
Hi Melissa,
rather unexpectedly, I found myself in the (legal) possession of some cash not needed for anything in particular. So, I thought I better write a check for the 2013 quilt retreat and dropped it in the mail this morning. The amount should pay for most of the cost and secure me a spot to boot. Have a good day ... Andrea
Thank you for the welcome! We are camping this weekend, so I won't get to make it to the event. But I want to get set up to make it to all of the others if possible. Plus I need to figure out how to pay the dues. It says to contact you for that I think? Thanks!
Hi Melissa. Thanks for the welcome.

Hi Melissa:
Wanted to share my blog address for my blog giveaway of a 4-spool AURIfil starter pack which ends at midnight tonight (I don't have access to post yet I'll announce my August giveaway as soon as I have it posted, as well! Thanks so much! I met such wonderful women yesterday at my first guild meeting, and look forward to building many great relationships centered around our love of modern quilting! My best, Susan Guzman
Melissa, What's your address again. I forgot to send my check. Karen
Thanks so much, Melissa, for all your help! I look forward to getting involved. Love the fresh look of what modern quilting is all about. When designing for specific quilt industry companies, I must stay within certain guidelines. I look forward to expanding my personal tastes through this guild!
Thanks Melissa...I have a friend that moved to Austin and she invited me to stay with her when I go to Quiltcon, but I would be interested in meeting up. Are you going to drive or fly?
Thanks, Melissa! It's on my calendar - looking forward to it!
Thanks for the welcome Melissa. I look forward to finding out where the meeting are held and attending one.
Hi Melissa, Thanks for the welcome. Wish I could come for the meeting today but unfortunately I have to work.
Anna
Thanks Melissa for the welcome to the group! I'm looking forward to meeting all of you one of these Saturday's. Typically I'm working at an animal hospital on Saturday, so it will be tough for me to make the meetings, but as soon as I have a free weekend I'll be there! I have a few girlfriends here in Colorado Springs who also quilt, so I'm trying to get them to come along too.
